Our Story…. We are Maria and Fabian we met in 1998 in the art room at school and went on to study at Central Saint Martins London. (Maria also did a Masters at the Royal College of Art) We have forged a strong creative relationship ever since. Sharing a love of design and product. We got married in 2005 and have two lively boys.

In 2015 we created Rufus Country as our own label after spending the 10 years prior working for leading UK brands including Radley London and Wedgwood.

Whats the meaning behind the bird logo?The Furnarius Rufus bird is a South American bird which builds it’s nest from clay instead of twigs. For us this epitomizes what we stand for, we believe in doing things differently!

We believe in designing our products from the ground up and putting our customers first.

Designed in England. Everything we sell is designed and sourced in house from our studio in Great Amwell, Hertfordshire. Where we also manufacture some of our accessory lines.

Our Favourite Materials:

100% Vegetable Tanned Italian Leather The majority of our leather is sourced directly from our tannery in Tuscany. Our leathers are 100% natural and are the top grade that money can buy. They age beautifully. When used for a number of years our bags will tell your stories not ours and that's how we like it.

Fine Bone China We love creating pieces in Fine Bone China referencing historic techniques and the UKs rich history in ceramic production. All of our ceramics are handmade in the UK using age old techniques.

Our bag manufacturing is lead by Dara who I met during my days at Radley she has a small factory based just outside Hong Kong. They share our passion for quality , fairness and the power of small.
